Services for Seniors


The Purpose of the Services for Seniors Department is to work with clients in our community to achieve optimal physical, mental and social health by providing an accessible network of support services.

Fees are associated with some of these services. Please see the Fee Schedule. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.

Intervention and Assistance Services is a support service which provides intervention and assistance to vulnerable and at-risk seniors and persons with physical disabilities and/or their caregivers. The goal of the service is to provide support and crisis intervention in ciritcal situations, stabilize and put a plan in place for the immediate or longer term. Our Meals-on-Wheels program provides a hot, nutritious meal to clients in their home. Clients may receive meals on a short or long-term basis. Frozen meals are also available. Call 416-847-4124 for more information.

The Home Help/Homemaking program provides light housekeeping, laundry and shopping assistance and meal preparation.Call 416-847-4122 for more information.

The Caregiver Support/Respite Service program provides relief to family or friends who assume the caregiver role. The service may include supervision, personal care, light housekeeping and meal preparation. Caregiver Support Sessions are also available to offer information and support to caregivers. These sessions are held at West Hill Community Services and other Scarborough locations. Call 416-847-4123 for more information.

Our Home Maintenance program provides assistance with grass cutting and snow shovelling.Call 416-284-5931, Ext. 224 for more information.

The Wheels-to-Meals program provides seniors with opportunity to attend a social gathering and receive a nutritious meal. Several luncheons occur monthly at various locations. Transportation is available. Call 416-283-9822 for more information.

The Transportation program provides transportation to and from medical appointments. Shopping trips are also offered on a regular basis. Escorts can be arranged for seniors who require a helping hand. Call 416-847-4125 for more information.

Our Friendly Visiting program provides regular visits in the client's home, by a West Hill Community Services volunteer. Activities might include talking, short walks, reading and other activities the client finds enjoyable. Call 416-847-4126 for more information.

The Security Check & Telephone Reassurance program promotes a sense of security for the client. The client or family determines days and times they wish to receive a telephone call from staff. Call 416-847-4124 for more information.

The Supportive Housing program at both 4175 and 4205 Lawrence Avenue East provides on-site support services to help eligible clients. The program supports clients with daily activities to assist them to live independently in their community. The program provides essential services such as personal care, light homemaking, emotional support, monitoring and timely response to emergency situations. Call 416-282-3664 for more information.

The Adult Day Program is located at 4637 Kingston Road and is for seniors with dementia or Alzheimer's Disease, disabled adults and frail seniors who are socially isolated. The program strives to enhance quality of life through programs and services, provides respite/relief for caregivers and enables clients to remain connected to their community. The program offers social integration for clients, physical, recreational and social activiteis, a friendly and secure environment, professional caring staff and volunteers, nutritious meals and snacks and transportation to and from the program. The Pine Tree Senior Centre is a wonderful place for seniors to enjoy interesting and creative activities, meet old friends and make some new ones. The program is located at 4130 Lawrence Avenue East. Pine Tree is open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All seniors are encouraged to join in - don't stay home alone. The West Hill Community Health Centre program serves all of Scarborough for those without health insurance coverage.
