Social Support


The Social Support Program Purpose is to provide basic needs of food, clothing, furniture housing and assist in implementing a plan for redirection through education, promotion and referral.

The Food Bank is open Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m.and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and provides individuals and families with emergency food to assist during difficult times. An Appointment is required. Please call 416-847-4145 before noon of the day you would like to come in.

The Furniture Bank has recently relocated. The Furniture Bank is located at 135 Beechgrove Dr. We provide gently used furniture items and household items to families, singles, and couples who are being housed for the first time, leaving a shelter or have experienced a loss of their personal furniture. For further information, please call 416-847-4142.

Our Homelessness Intervention and Outreach Worker assists individuals and families who are homeless or are facing eviction to arrange more secure housing. Please call 416-847-4143.

The East End Meeting Place is open every Thursday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at 4100 Lawrence Avenue East, Room #3, to assist homeless or isolated people. This is a drop-in program that begins in late November and runs through till Easter. No appointments are necessary. A Hot Lunch is provided and take away items are provided.

Income Tax Assistance is available free of charge for low-income families. This clinic runs once a year at tax time. An appointment is necessary. Please call 416-284-5931 for additional information. This program is possible thanks to many volunteers from the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

The Clothing Bank provides clothing to adults and children. A variety of sizes are available. The program is run by a volunteer and the hours of service are Monday and Tuesday from 9:20a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Call 416-847-4142 for further information.

Winter Food Hampers: During the holiday period in December, Food Bank clients may apply for toy assistance for their children. All Food Bank Clients will receive an extended food hamper in the week prior to Christmas. At this time of year we do have sponsors that will provide food and toys for families. Please speak to a Food Bank Assistant if you wish to register for toys. For individuals or groups who would like to sponsor a family, please contact 416-847-4141 for further information. This program is supported by our local schools and faith groups as well as private individuals and dedicated volunteers.

The West Hill Community Health Centre program serves all of Scarborough for those without health insurance coverage.
